The FertiScan genetic infertility test range checks selected genes linked to female or male fertility difficulties. Eleven options allow you to start with a defined concern, choose a wider female or male panel, or select a Fertility Box that combines genetic analysis with other reproductive tests.
This structure can help you investigate a specific fertility question without automatically paying for the widest option. Through My DNA Lab, you can access FertiScan privately and use the report to support an informed conversation with your GP, fertility specialist or clinic.
A 10 ml blood sample is required. You can arrange collection with your own qualified healthcare professional or use My DNA Lab’s mobile phlebotomy service within mainland UK. Once your sample is ready, contact us and we will arrange its return to the laboratory.
Gene changes can contribute to some cases of infertility, repeated pregnancy loss, ovarian conditions and differences in response to fertility treatment. FertiScan therefore offers targeted panels for a defined concern as well as broader female and male fertility panels.
The Female and Male Fertility Box options combine a wider FertiScan panel with additional analyses. Depending on the option, these can include a chromosome check, cystic fibrosis, Fragile X, thrombophilia or Y-chromosome microdeletion analysis.
You can compare the complete range in the FertiScan brochure under ‘Test provider and further information’ further down this page. Fertility Box is the broadest option in this range, but it is not automatically the best choice when a targeted panel already addresses your question.
FertiScan may suit you if you are experiencing fertility difficulties, repeated miscarriage or a suspected inherited reproductive condition. It may also provide useful genetic information before assisted reproductive treatment.
The report is most useful when it is considered alongside your fertility history, hormone tests, scans, semen analysis and other investigations. For this reason, FertiScan can add to a fertility assessment but cannot assess every genetic or non-genetic cause of infertility.
If a genetic change has already been identified in your family, a focused family test may be more useful than a broad fertility panel. If you choose to use the free pre-test genetic counselling service, you can decide whether to discuss the existing family report during that session.
My DNA Lab’s mobile phlebotomy service is available within mainland UK for an additional £60. Alternatively, you can arrange collection with your own qualified healthcare professional.
Your report may identify a gene or chromosome change that could help explain part of the fertility concern covered by your chosen option. It may also find no relevant change or identify a finding that needs further investigation.
A relevant finding can support discussions about further tests, reproductive options or treatment planning. However, it cannot identify every cause of infertility, predict whether treatment will work or guarantee a pregnancy.
Free genetic counselling is available both before and after this test. Pre-test counselling can help you understand the panel choices, while post-test counselling can help explain the genetic report. To use either service, contact My DNA Lab and we will put you in touch with a representative from the testing provider. We always recommend that you discuss your results with your healthcare professional, as treatment decisions depend on the wider clinical picture.
Begin with the fertility question you want the test to explore. A targeted FertiScan option checks a smaller group of genes linked to one concern, such as repeated miscarriage or primary ovarian insufficiency. The global panels cover a wider selection of fertility-related genes, while Fertility Box adds other analyses for a broader investigation.
If a fertility clinic is involved, keep the complete report with your family history and existing fertility results. This allows the clinic to consider any finding in the context of the investigations and treatment you have already had.
A negative FertiScan result means that no relevant finding was reported within the selected method and panel. It can narrow the genetic question, but it does not mean that every possible cause of the fertility difficulty has been ruled out.
