Carrier Screening Tests

Many people carry an inherited gene change without knowing because they do not have the condition themselves.

Private carrier screening tests can help you understand whether you carry selected changes that could be passed to a child, giving you useful information before pregnancy, during family planning or as part of a fertility pathway.
You can test individually or, where available, as a couple. Couple screening can show whether both biological parents carry relevant changes linked to the same recessive condition, helping you have a more informed conversation about reproductive choices.
Our range gives you two different ways to access this information: Adventia uses an at-home Buccal Cheek Swab and offers focused or broader panels, while GeneScreen uses blood and provides four progressively wider screening levels.

Key information about carrier screening

Individual and couple options are available
Choose from focused condition tests and broader carrier panels
Sample collection uses blood or an at-home buccal cheek swab, depending on the test
Testing can support family planning, fertility treatment or donor-programme decisions
For many recessive conditions, carrying a relevant change does not usually mean that you have the condition yourself. However, a child may have a higher chance of being affected when both biological parents carry relevant changes linked to the same condition. That is why a couple test considers both results together.

Compare our carrier screening tests

Adventia and GeneScreen both explore carrier status, but they give you different ways to reach that information. Adventia combines focused single-condition testing with two wider panels, while GeneScreen is arranged across four progressively broader screening levels.
If you already have a particular condition in mind, a focused test can keep the screening centred on that question. Alternatively, a broader panel may be more helpful when you want a wider reproductive overview or need to meet a fertility or donor-programme requirement.
Start with “If you’re looking for…” in each test summary, then compare the panel structure, sample method and available support to see which approach most closely matches your priorities.

How carrier screening helps you plan

If you test as an individual, your report can show whether you carry a relevant change within the selected panel. If you test as a couple, the laboratory can also consider both results together and show whether you both carry changes linked to the same recessive condition.

From there, the information can support a more focused conversation about reproductive choices and whether any further testing would be helpful. Equally, a result with no relevant finding can be reassuring within the limits of the selected panel.

Because every panel has a defined scope, it is important to see exactly which conditions or genes are included. Once you open a test, you can review its complete coverage and decide which level gives you the information you want.

We always recommend that results are discussed with your Healthcare Professional.
